Brickel @ Night! Don't forget to look at the other pages too!

Sunday night I traveled down to Brickel Ave. to shoot some night shots, specificially of the Bank of America building (which the previous night had been lit up red). To my utter dismay I came to find that the damn BOA building wasn't lit up, pretty much all was lost. I didn't get any great shots, but here are some of the good ones

The Palm tree, (Inland Winds) bellow left, is a little photoshop job I did on the original. I loved the way the leaves of the palm were blurry from blowing in the wind so i decided to keep only the trunk of the palm not blurry and blur the rest. (Straight bellow) the building which houses the Miami White and Case office. Beginnings and Endings

The 2nd most annoying thing of that night is a problem with shooting the bridge to the port because there's a very bright white light that screws up the shot, you can see a little haze off camera to the right...sigh. Purple MountainFuture Living. This piece's name is a satire on where someone wants to live it's kinda like wishing he lived on "the top of the reef" haha.

New Pictures from Ft Myers Beach

So these are some of my most recent shots, they're from my little vacation whit my girlfriend and her parents. I didn't get as many good shots as I had hoped I would but it happens. there's always New York City next month! Jimminy Cricket: This little guy was crawling on the railings of the back porch when we got back from the beach on the first day. It was hands down the biggest grasshopper I had ever seen
I feel very strongly like this shot could be out of some fashion magazine, atleast if it weren't for those two random people in the water to the left, but oh well, still a great shot. Footsteps in the Sand
What photographer doesn't love a great sunset, well this one wasn't ideal due to a thunderstorm rolling in from the North East which blocked out alot of the sunset. However I was still able to snap off a few shots. Cotton Candy Skies

Still Life Day!

Hockey has kinda always been a pretty big part of my life although I stopped playing it for awhile. I've been wanted to do so nice macro shots of some of my equiptment so I figured why not start with my skates: At Rest Lomo
When I was a kid my dad found this goat skull at his work it was sunbleached and just sitting idle in a field. Due to the fact that I have never been a truly "normal" kid he found it a good idea to grab it and bring it home to me. Since then I've taken the liberty of making the skull into a psuedo-art project by pouring melted wax all over it, making it appear as if the candle were melted on it: Candles in the Night
Here's the shot of my Skates that I think is the best: Airing Out (if anyone knows hockey equiptment they'll understand the title)
Here's a shot of the palate of the Goat skull, this was shot with flash, and candle light under a long exposure which gives the color differences between the warm and cold colours: Grazing

Today there were 4 Macaws(sp?) in my front yard so I found it an opportune time to snap some shots of these amazing birds, however I currently don't have photoshop or access to my roomates computer who does so here's an un edited taste:Hopefully I can get my Photoshop issues straightened out so I can edit and post this picture and many other from the days to come

I haven't posted in a week...

Here's a nice little shot I took the other night in Coral Gables. I took about 30 shots that night and spent alot of the time fiddling with different settings like EV and shutter speed, this is one of the few shots that came out really good entitled Colours and Shapes. This picture was taken the same day as the good pictures of me and my girlfriend in the sunset. the water really reminded me of the cover for the album "Black Sails in the Sunset" by AFI. Lovebirds on Black Water.

These next three are unedited:

This picture was taken the other day at a park near the causway for key biscayne. (although my tripod was in my car) I balanced my camera on my wallet, cell phone, and my girlfriends sudoku book, it took a few tries and some play with photoshop but it came out amazing.
The sky appears more like sunset then it really was since we went to the park expecting to catch sunset, however we realized that the park faces east (duh). So playing with a warming filter and keeping the luminosity this was the outcome.

Pollution the first true "post card" type picture I've taken, the trashcan just makes the surreal beauty of the beach just that much more real, and puts the effect of the human condition on the earth into perspect (and believe me, I'm no environmentalist). The composition itself is ironic, a beauty and the beast sort of irony or paradox.

I also dabble in the "lomo" effect (http://digital-photography-school.com/blog/how-to-make-digital-photos-look-like-lomo-photography/). I feel it gives a depth of emotion to the pictures. Like this one, for example Comin' Home, in post production this picture really reminded me of a song by City and Colour. Some of the lyrics are: "I've never been to Alaska, but I can tell you this,/I've been to Lincoln, Nebraska and hell you know it ain't worth shit/I've been through Nova Scotia, Sydney to Halifax/I'll never take any pictures cause I know I'll just be right back." I think that if i go back to this one ill redo the lomo and try to bring out the blue in the chairs with some over saturation.
What I think lomo does to this shot is it makes the Hyena look more vicious in its feeding. Entitled гиена (Hyena in Russian). Bellow Fate as you go up you go to where you belong... up top. Bottom left: City Escape
